What is CVE-1999-1276?

The fte-console in the fte package, prior to version 0.46b-4.1, fails to drop root privileges correctly. This oversight allows local users to exploit the virtual console device and gain elevated root access on affected Debian systems, potentially compromising system integrity and security.
