What is CVE-2002-0362?

AOL Instant Messenger versions 4.2 and later are susceptible to a buffer overflow vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This can be exploited via a specially crafted AddExternalApp request, particularly when using a TLV type that exceeds the maximum limit (greater than 0x2711). Successful exploitation exposes users to serious security risks, enabling potentially harmful actions at the system level.
