File Access Vulnerability in Apache on Apple Mac OS X Systems
CVE-2004-1083
Key Information:

- Vendor
- CVE Published:
- 3 December 2004
What is CVE-2004-1083?
The vulnerability arises from a mismatch in case-sensitivity between the Apache web server and the Apple HFS+ file system. While Apache restricts file access in a case-sensitive manner, the HFS+ file system handles file names in a case-insensitive manner. This discrepancy allows remote attackers to exploit this behavior and gain unauthorized access to sensitive files, including .DS_Store files and files that begin with the characters " .ht". As a result, attackers can potentially read private configurations or metadata intended to remain hidden.
