What is CVE-2005-2279?

The Cisco ONS 15216 Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (OADM), when running firmware version 2.2.2 and earlier, is susceptible to a denial of service attack. This vulnerability allows remote attackers to disrupt management plane sessions by sending specially crafted telnet data. As a result, legitimate users may experience loss of service and may be unable to manage the device effectively. It is critical for users of this product to implement necessary security measures to mitigate the risk.
