What is CVE-2008-3431?
The VBoxDrvNtDeviceControl function in VBoxDrv.sys of Sun xVM VirtualBox versions prior to 1.6.4 can be exploited by local users. By invoking the DeviceIoControl function with a specially crafted kernel address, attackers can potentially gain elevated privileges. This occurs due to inadequate buffer validation associated with the Irp object, especially when using the METHOD_NEITHER communication method for IOCTLs. Proper mitigation involves updating to the latest version of VirtualBox to protect against this vulnerability.
