X.509 Certificate Validation Flaw in GnuTLS Affecting Multiple Versions
CVE-2009-5138
Currently unrated
Summary
Earlier versions of GnuTLS, prior to 2.7.6, exhibit a vulnerability where X.509 version 1 certificates are treated as intermediate CAs when the GNUTLS_VERIFY_ALLOW_X509_V1_CA_CRT flag is disabled. This behavior can enable remote attackers to exploit the system, allowing them to bypass security protocols by utilizing a valid X.509 V1 certificate from a trusted authority to issue unauthorized new certificates. This flaw can pose significant risks to the integrity of secure communications and certificate management.
