What is CVE-2011-1720?
The SMTP server in Postfix, when configured with certain Cyrus SASL authentication methods, fails to initialize a new server handle after an authentication failure. This flaw can be exploited by attackers to induce a denial of service condition, causing heap memory corruption and resulting in a crash of the Postfix daemon. Additionally, through a sequence of crafted AUTH commands, there exists a potential for executing arbitrary code, posing significant risks to the integrity and availability of mail systems reliant on vulnerable versions of Postfix.
Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
