Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in OpenStack Object Storage by OpenStack
CVE-2012-4406

9.8CRITICAL

Key Information:

Vendor
Openstack
Status
Vendor
CVE Published:
22 October 2012

Summary

OpenStack Object Storage (swift) versions prior to 1.7.0 improperly handle the loading of metadata stored in memcached using the loads function of the pickle Python module. This insecure deserialization allows attackers to craft malicious pickle objects that, when processed, can result in arbitrary code execution on the server. This vulnerability highlights the risks associated with using serialization formats that can execute code during deserialization.
