What is CVE-2014-6438?

The URI.decode_www_form_component method in Ruby versions earlier than 1.9.2-p330 is susceptible to a denial of service attack. Malicious users can exploit this vulnerability by providing specially crafted strings that lead to catastrophic regular expression backtracking. As a result, this can cause excessive resource consumption or even crash the application, potentially disrupting services for users.
