What is CVE-2014-9983?

A directory traversal vulnerability affects RAR versions 4.x and 5.x, allowing attackers to exploit symlink behavior during unpack operations. By using specially crafted archives, remote attackers can manipulate arbitrary files on the system. This vulnerability arises from the failure to properly restrict access to file paths when processing symlinks contained within the RAR archive, potentially leading to unauthorized file access and manipulation.
