What is CVE-2015-3217?

The PCRE library versions 7.8 to 8.37, as well as PCRE2 version 10.10, exhibit a vulnerability that mishandles group empty matches, potentially enabling remote attackers to exploit this flaw. By crafting malicious regular expressions, an attacker can trigger a denial of service condition through a stack-based buffer overflow, affecting the stability and responsiveness of affected applications.
