Heap-Based Buffer Overflow in PCRE Library Affecting Multiple Vendors
CVE-2015-5073
9.1CRITICAL
What is CVE-2015-5073?
A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the find_fixedlength function of the PCRE library, affecting versions prior to 8.38. This flaw allows remote attackers to craft regular expressions with excessive closing parentheses, leading to potential denial of service through application crashes or unauthorized extraction of sensitive information from the heap memory. Moreover, this vulnerability may enable attackers to bypass Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) protections, further compromising system integrity.
