Remote time manipulation vulnerability in NTP software by NTP Project
CVE-2015-5300

7.5HIGH

Key Information:

Status
Vendor
CVE Published:
21 July 2017

Summary

The NTP software is susceptible to a vulnerability where the panic_gate check is only re-enabled following a significant change (greater than 128 milliseconds) to the system clock. This flaw permits remote attackers, when NTP is executed with the -g option, to set the server clock to any arbitrary time. Additionally, through responding to a series of requests from trusted sources, attackers can manipulate the time by up to 900 seconds, potentially leading to a denial of service as the NTP daemon may abort and require a restart.
