Cleartext Data Exposure in GNOME Evolution Data Server IMAPx Component
CVE-2016-10727

9.8CRITICAL

Key Information:

Vendor
Canonical
Vendor
CVE Published:
20 July 2018

Summary

The IMAPx component in GNOME's evolution-data-server, prior to version 3.21.2, improperly handles connections where a client requests STARTTLS but the server fails to support it. Instead of reporting an error and halting the process, the server continues to transmit sensitive data, including passwords, in cleartext. This behavior poses a risk for remote attackers to capture this information through network sniffing, leading to potential unauthorized access to user accounts.
