What is CVE-2016-20037?
The xwpe product version 1.5.30a-2.1 and earlier is susceptible to a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability. This flaw enables local attackers to exploit the system by inputting excessively long command-line arguments, which can lead to arbitrary code execution. By manipulating input strings with 262 bytes of junk data followed by the appropriate shellcode, an attacker can overwrite the instruction pointer, potentially causing malicious code to run or the application to crash. It is essential for users and administrators to apply necessary updates to safeguard against this vulnerability.
