URL Spoofing Vulnerability in Opera for Android
CVE-2016-6908
What is CVE-2016-6908?
The vulnerability arises from the improper rendering of Unicode characters in the Opera for Android browser, specifically characters used in right-to-left scripts such as Arabic and Hebrew. Due to this mishandling, URLs can be displayed incorrectly, which may mislead users into believing they are navigating to a legitimate site. An attacker can exploit this by crafting a URL that starts with an IP address or a string of characters that triggers RTL rendering. This misrepresents the URL's true destination, allowing for potential phishing attacks. Attackers can employ neutral Unicode characters to manipulate the URL, causing a complete inversion of its expected layout.
