What is CVE-2016-8624?

An issue has been identified in the curl library where versions prior to 7.51.0 incorrectly parse the authority component of a URL. Specifically, if the hostname ends with a '#' character, curl could be misled into connecting to an unintended server. This flaw could have serious security implications, especially in scenarios where an URL parser adheres to the RFC for domain validation before making requests with curl. It highlights the risks associated with improper handling of URL structures in network protocols.

Affected Version(s)
