What is CVE-2017-12244?

A vulnerability exists in the Cisco Firepower System Software that affects how IPv6 packets are parsed by the detection engine. This issue can be exploited by an unauthenticated remote attacker who sends a specially crafted IPv6 packet to the system. If successful, this can lead to unexpected restarts of the Snort process, resulting in high CPU utilization and potentially causing a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability specifically impacts systems configured with file action policies and is present in multiple Cisco security appliance models running on software version 6.0 and later.
