What is CVE-2017-12478?

A vulnerability exists in the api/storage web interface of Unitrends Backup prior to version 10.0.0, where an input parameter fails to be properly validated. This oversight allows a remote attacker to bypass authentication mechanisms. By exploiting this flaw, the attacker could execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the targeted system, posing significant risks to the integrity and confidentiality of the data managed by Unitrends Backup.
