What is CVE-2017-14730?

The init script in the Gentoo logstash-bin package prior to version 5.5.3 and versions 5.6.x prior to 5.6.1 contains improper 'chown -R' calls for user-writable directory trees. This misconfiguration allows local users to exploit the system by creating hard links through the $LS_USER account, potentially gaining escalated privileges.
