What is CVE-2017-15093?

The PowerDNS Recursor is vulnerable when the api-config-dir is set to a non-empty value. This configuration allows authorized users to manipulate the Recursor's Access Control List (ACL) by adding or removing netmasks. Furthermore, it permits the configuration of forward zones without adequate validation of new netmask and IP addresses. This lack of sufficient checks can lead to unauthorized injection of new configuration directives, potentially compromising the integrity and security of the DNS service.
