Denial of Service Vulnerability in Debut Embedded HTTP Server by Brother
CVE-2017-16249
What is CVE-2017-16249?
The Debut embedded HTTP server by Brother is susceptible to a denial of service due to a flaw in how it processes HTTP POST requests. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request that causes the server to hang, leading to an eventual HTTP 500 error response after approximately 300 seconds. During this downtime, all network print jobs are blocked, and the web interface becomes unresponsive, preventing legitimate users from accessing the device. Persistent exploitation of this vulnerability can effectively render the server unusable for its intended network functions.
