What is CVE-2017-17840?

A vulnerability in Open-iSCSI versions up to 2.0.875 allows local attackers to exploit the iscsiuio server by sending messages with invalid lengths. This can result in buffer overflow conditions when proper payload length validation is not enforced prior to write operations in the process_iscsid_broadcast function found in iscsiuio/src/unix/iscsid_ipc.c. Exploitation of this flaw could lead to server aborts or enable execution of arbitrary code, posing a significant risk to server integrity.
