What is CVE-2017-5842?
A vulnerability exists in the html_context_handle_element function of gst/plugins-base in GStreamer prior to version 1.10.3. This weakness allows remote attackers to perform a denial of service through specially crafted SMI files. Successful exploitation can result in an out-of-bounds write, potentially leading to application crashes or other unintended behaviors, as showcased by incidents involving manipulated SMI files.
