What is CVE-2017-5946?

The Zip::File component in the rubyzip gem prior to version 1.2.1 contains a directory traversal vulnerability. When an application allows the upload of ZIP files, an attacker could exploit this flaw by uploading a specially crafted ZIP archive that includes '../' path traversal sequences. This could enable the attacker to write arbitrary files to the filesystem, potentially leading to further compromise of the affected system.
