Multiple Code Execution Vulnerabilities in Cisco IOS SNMP Subsystem
CVE-2017-6742
What is CVE-2017-6742?
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) subsystem of Cisco IOS versions 12.0 to 12.4 and 15.0 to 15.6, as well as IOS XE 2.2 to 3.17, contains multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities. An authenticated, remote attacker may exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted SNMP packet via IPv4 or IPv6, potentially allowing remote code execution or system reload. Vulnerabilities exist across all SNMP versions (1, 2c, and 3), requiring attackers to possess knowledge of the SNMP read-only community string for versions 2c and earlier, or user credentials for version 3. Any device with SNMP enabled that has not explicitly excluded the vulnerable MIBs or OIDs must be considered at risk.
