Vulnerability in SMA Solar Technology's Grid Guard Authentication System
CVE-2017-9855
What is CVE-2017-9855?
An authentication issue was identified in SMA Solar Technology’s Grid Guard system, which is intended for tracing rather than robust security. This system uses easily predictable codes that, when paired with an installer account, can enable unauthorized users to alter sensitive operational parameters on designated SMA inverters. While the vendor clarifies that Grid Guard does not serve as a genuine authentication measure, the implications of its predictable coding system pose potential security risks. Affected models include Sunny Boy TLST-21, TL-21, and Sunny Tripower TL-10 and TL-30.
