What is CVE-2018-10871?

The 389 Directory Server (389-ds-base), prior to versions 1.3.8.5 and 1.4.0.12, is found to be vulnerable to the cleartext storage of sensitive information issue. When the Replica and/or retroChangeLog plugins are activated, this server stores user passwords in plaintext within its changelog files. This exposure allows an attacker with elevated privileges, such as root or Directory Manager, to access these files and retrieve sensitive credentials, potentially leading to unauthorized access and further exploitation. Ensuring the installation of the latest version is essential to mitigate this security concern.
