Linux Kernel ext4 Product Vulnerability Affecting Red Hat and Ubuntu
CVE-2018-1094
5.5MEDIUM
What is CVE-2018-1094?
The ext4_fill_super function in the Linux kernel's ext4 module fails to consistently initialize the crc32c checksum driver. This oversight can be exploited by attackers using specially crafted ext4 images, leading to a NULL pointer dereference in ext4_xattr_inode_hash. The result is a denial of service condition, where the system may crash unexpectedly. This vulnerability primarily impacts Linux users, particularly in environments using Red Hat and Ubuntu distributions.
