What is CVE-2018-1120?

A significant flaw exists in the Linux kernel that can be exploited through the mmap() function when applied to a FUSE-backed file. This vulnerability enables attackers to manipulate a process's memory containing command line arguments or environment strings. As a direct consequence, utilities like ps, w, and any programs that read from /proc//cmdline or /proc//environ may suffer from an indefinite blockage or controlled delays, potentially leading to denial of service attacks. This behavior can be leveraged as a synchronization mechanism during larger attack campaigns.
