What is CVE-2018-12520?

A vulnerability has been identified in ntopng, wherein the Pseudo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) for session ID generation is not properly seeded upon startup. This flaw results in predictable and deterministic session identifiers being assigned to active user sessions. As a consequence, an attacker who knows the operating system details and standard library in use, along with the target user’s username, can exploit this issue to hijack user sessions, granting unauthorized access to sensitive information and functionalities.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
