What is CVE-2018-13054?

Cinnamon versions 1.9.2 through 3.8.6 contain a vulnerability wherein the cinnamon-settings-users.py GUI operates with root privileges. This allows for the manipulation of user icon files through the _on_face_browse_menuitem_activated and _on_face_menuitem_activated functions. If a non-privileged user creates a symbolic link targeting an arbitrary directory, executing the GUI can lead to overwriting those linked files with the user’s icon data, posing a significant security risk.
