DNSSEC Validation Vulnerability in PowerDNS Recursor by PowerDNS
CVE-2018-14644
5.3MEDIUM
What is CVE-2018-14644?
A security issue in PowerDNS Recursor allows a remote attacker to exploit DNS queries for meta-types like OPT, potentially leading to improper caching of zones failing DNSSEC validation. This vulnerability occurs only if the parent zone is signed, and all authoritative servers for that zone respond with a FORMERR error to queries for at least one meta-type. Consequently, clients' requests for DNSSEC validation may receive inaccurate ServFail responses, undermining the security of DNS operations.
