What is CVE-2018-16851?

Samba, versions up to and including 4.9.3, suffers from a denial of service vulnerability due to memory management issues during LDAP searches. When processing an LDAP query, Samba caches entries in a single memory object with a limit of 256MB. If this limit is reached, the server may follow a NULL pointer, resulting in the termination of the LDAP service. This vulnerability does not pose a direct exploit beyond causing service interruptions.
