What is CVE-2018-19989?

An input validation vulnerability exists in the uplink parameter of the /HNAP1/SetQoSSettings message in D-Link DIR-822 devices. The vulnerable code saves the uplink input directly in the internal configuration memory without appropriate regex checks, allowing attackers to inject shell metacharacters. This can potentially lead to remote command execution by exploiting certain functions that handle this data without validation, thereby compromising the security of the device.
