What is CVE-2018-25383?

Free MP3 CD Ripper 2.8 features a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability within its WMA file processing component. This flaw enables local attackers to exploit the software by crafting a malicious WMA file that, upon using the Convert function, triggers a buffer overflow. The attack manipulates structured exception handling to bypass Data Execution Prevention (DEP) protections. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution, allowing attackers to deploy their own payloads through return-oriented programming (ROP) techniques and shellcode injection.

Affected Version(s)

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
