What is CVE-2018-25438?

Intermesh Group-Office versions prior to 3.5.5 are susceptible to an unauthenticated path traversal vulnerability found in the compress.php file. This flaw allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files on the server by manipulating the 'file' parameter in GET requests. By using directory traversal sequences, an attacker could access sensitive files, such as /etc/passwd, posing a significant risk to system integrity and data privacy. Evidence of exploitation was recorded by the Shadowserver Foundation recently, highlighting the importance of immediate remediation for affected users.

Affected Version(s)

Group-Office 3.3.0 < 3.5.5

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
