What is CVE-2018-5736?

A vulnerability exists in ISC BIND due to a flaw in zone database reference counting. This issue can potentially lead to assertion failures if a vulnerable server executes multiple zone transfers in rapid succession. An attacker with permission can exploit this defect by prompting the server to initiate zone transfers, perhaps through valid NOTIFY messages. Successfully triggering this flaw may result in the named process crashing after a failed assertion test, creating risks for server stability and availability.
