What is CVE-2018-6851?

The vulnerability allows local privilege escalation in several Sophos products, including SafeGuard Enterprise, SafeGuard Easy, and SafeGuard LAN Crypt. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by crafting a specific input buffer that manipulates the execution path. This results in writing a constant value of zero to a user-controlled address, which can compromise the security descriptor of a privileged process. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to potentially execute code in the context of a system-level process, undermining the overall security of affected systems.
