Local Privilege Escalation in Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise and Easy
CVE-2018-6853

7.8HIGH

Summary

Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise, SafeGuard Easy, and SafeGuard LAN Crypt prior to specified versions are subject to a local privilege escalation vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this flaw through a crafted input buffer that influences the execution path of the software. This can lead to the manipulation of a global variable, allowing an attacker to alter the security descriptor pointer in a privileged process. As a result, the attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of a process running with SYSTEM privileges, significantly compromising system integrity.
