What is CVE-2018-6856?

Certain versions of Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise, Easy, and LAN Crypt are susceptible to local privilege escalation due to improper handling of IOCTL calls. By specially crafting an input buffer, an attacker can redirect execution paths and manipulate global variables. This vulnerability enables the potential to modify security descriptors or even nullify pointer references in privileged processes, allowing unauthorized code execution as SYSTEM.
