What is CVE-2018-7669?

The Log Viewer application in Sitecore.NET versions 8.1 rev. 151207 Hotfix 141178-1 and later is susceptible to a directory traversal vulnerability. Attackers can exploit this flaw to access arbitrary files on the host operating system by manipulating the 'file' parameter in a specific URI. The inherent validation for the parameter can be bypassed by employing a 'dot dot' style attack, effectively compromising the intended directory structure and exposing sensitive data.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
