Stack-Based Buffer Overflow in EDIMAX IP Cameras
CVE-2018-8072
What is CVE-2018-8072?
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the EDIMAX IC-3140W, IC-5150W, and IC-6220DC IP cameras due to improper handling of input in the ipcam_cgi binary. This issue can be exploited remotely without authentication via specially crafted HTTP requests to the /camera-cgi/public/getsysyeminfo.cgi endpoint. By sending a request with a payload exceeding 1024 bytes, attackers can overwrite critical stack values, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution and compromising device integrity. It is crucial for users to update their firmware to mitigate this security risk.
