What is CVE-2018-8778?

In versions prior to 2.2.10, 2.3.7, 2.4.4, 2.5.1, and 2.6.0-preview1 of the Ruby programming language, an attacker with control over the unpacking format can exploit the String#unpack method to trigger a buffer under-read. This vulnerability can result in significant information disclosure, exposing sensitive data through carefully crafted input.
