Summary

The DataImportHandler in Apache Solr permits configuration from a request's 'dataConfig' parameter, creating a security vulnerability. This potentially allows attackers to execute arbitrary code if they gain access to this parameter in a debug mode scenario. To mitigate this risk, users should set the Java System property 'enable.dih.dataConfigParam' to true from version 8.2.0 onwards, minimizing exposure to such threats.

CISA Reported

CISA provides regional cyber and physical services to support security and resilience across the United States. CISA monitor the most dangerious vulnerabilities and have identifed as being exploited but is not known by the CISA to be used in ransomware campaigns. This is subject to change at pace

The CISA's recommendation is: Apply updates per vendor instructions.

Affected Version(s)

Apache Solr Apache Solr all prior to 8.2.0

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)
