Improper Access Control in Avira Free Security Suite Vulnerability
CVE-2019-11396
What is CVE-2019-11396?
An issue exists in Avira Free Security Suite 10 where inappropriate access rights are set on the SoftwareUpdater folder, allowing unprivileged users to manipulate files connected to privileged operations. By exploiting the creation of the SwuConfig.json file, an unauthenticated user can substitute legitimate files with symbolic links to arbitrary files. This results in elevated privilege scenarios during updates, where a privileged service inadvertently grants excessive write permissions, thereby exposing sensitive system areas to unauthorized file modifications.
