What is CVE-2019-12415?

Apache POI versions up to 4.1.0 are susceptible to an XML External Entity (XXE) processing vulnerability when using the XSSFExportToXml tool for converting user-provided Microsoft Excel documents. A specially crafted Excel file can be exploited by an attacker to read arbitrary files from the local filesystem or access sensitive data within internal network resources. This vulnerability highlights the importance of securing the handling of XML input in parsing libraries used with user-generated content.
