Summary

A vulnerability in the Harbor container registry implementation allows non-admin users to exploit the POST /api/users API to create admin accounts. This occurs when Harbor is configured with a database authentication backend and user self-registration is enabled. To mitigate this issue, users are encouraged to upgrade to patched versions (1.7.6, 1.8.3, or later) or switch to a non-DB authentication method, such as LDAP.

Exploit Proof of Concept (PoC)

PoC code is written by security researchers to demonstrate the vulnerability can be exploited. PoC code is also a key component for weaponization which could lead to ransomware.
