Buffer Overflow in Canon EOS Series Cameras and PowerShot Devices
CVE-2019-5999
Summary
A buffer overflow vulnerability exists within the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) implementation of Canon EOS series digital cameras and PowerShot devices. This flaw allows an attacker on the same network segment to disrupt device operations, rendering the camera unresponsive, or potentially executing arbitrary code. The risk arises from the 'blerequest' command, which can be exploited to compromise device functionality. Users are encouraged to assess their devices and install the recommended firmware updates to mitigate the risk.
