Authentication Bypass in ABB IDAL HTTP Server
CVE-2019-7226
What is CVE-2019-7226?
The ABB IDAL HTTP server's CGI interface has a critical flaw where an unauthenticated attacker can leverage the /cgi/loginDefaultUser URL to circumvent standard authentication. This issue allows malicious users to create a session as if they were an authenticated user, potentially revealing sensitive data such as usernames and cleartext passwords. With an acquired session ID and a corresponding IDALToken stored in a cookie, an attacker may perform unauthorized actions, like service restarts via the /cgi/restart endpoint. This vulnerability poses a significant risk as it enables attackers to exploit privileged functionalities without proper authentication.
